Plywood is a material manufactured from thin layers or “plies” of wood veneer that are glued together with adjacent layers having their wood grain rotated up to 90 degrees to one another. It is an engineered wood from the family of manufactured boards which include medium-density fibreboard (MDF) and particle board (chipboard).
PLYWOOD
BWR (IS 303)
BWR plywood or boiling water-resistant plywood, as the name suggests, is highly water-resistant plywood. It is completely waterproof and is widely used to make furniture for home, office as well as outdoors. BWR plywood is made from phenolic resins. As an exterior plywood grade, BWR plywood can be used indoors, outdoors and semi-outdoor purposes with humid conditions.BWR plywood’s waterproofing characteristics come from A grade phenolic resins or phenol formaldehyde adhesive used in its manufacturing.
BWP ( IS 710)
BWP stands for weather and boil proof. BWP Plywood is considered to be an exterior grade or marine grade. Using BWP glue for the plywood ensures that the panel can be exposed to humidity or moisture for a long time without delamination. Plywood is quite durable as it is made of three or more thin sheets of wood called veneers that are glued together. Each layer of wood is laid with the grain running at right angles to the next layer. To test the durability of BWP plywood, you can take a few samples of the plywood and put it in boiling water. If the samples do not delaminate for a long period, we can conclude that the plywood has BWP property.
MR ( moisture resistance)
MR grade plywood is locally known as commercial plywood. This plywood makes an important ingredient for all types of furniture as it is the most commonly used, popular plywood among the construction industry. While most of us blindly go for the plywood suggested by the plywood seller, few of us would really like to know in entirety, about whatever we bring home. This blog is for those few people who care about their furniture just as much as we do.It’s the most common misconception about MR grade plywood that it is waterproof.
